Elizabeth Alley

Source: Greencastle Star-Press; June 13, 1903

Again the angel of death has visited our home, and has taken from us our beloved mother. Mrs. Elizabeth Alley died at her home, 4 miles southeast of Bainbridge, on June 1, 1903. She was born in Tennessee, Feb. 2, 1811, and was 92 years, 4 months and 1 day old at the time of her death. She was united in marriage to Lemuel Jent in 1833; to this union were born eleven children, five of whom survive her-John Jent, Susan Coverdille, Mary Ann Perkins of Kansas, Aaron and Elizabeth Jent of Bainbridge. She also leaves twenty-two grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jent died in the year 1859, and she remained a widow until 1863, when she was united in marriage to Basil Alley; he died in 1868. Mrs. Alley and her two children remained at their home until the time of her death. Mrs. Alley united with the Predestinarian Baptist Church in her childhood days. Her death was as peaceful and tranquil as her life had been. On Friday, the day she became sick, she had been planning for a visit, for she enjoyed life so well.
